I’m a Malaysian-born illustrator, cryer, and creative side-quester based in Perth, WA. Ever since I was little, I dreamed of pursuing art. However, like many other dreamers, I succumbed to a path shaped by cultural expectations and conventional career choices. I became a paediatric occupational therapist, and while it was a meaningful career I truly didn’t regret, the cost of actively dimming my creative calling left me feeling unfulfilled and emotionally burnt out.
The creative pull was persistent and quiet, yet so deafening. The longer I pushed it away, the harder it seemed to push back.
So after nearly a decade, I decided it was time to listen and choose differently. Jess Gui Studio is result of a slow, sincere and intentional creative pursuit to honour the little girl who drew and dreamed with her whole heart. I’m so glad you’re here!

A LITTLE BIT MORE ABOUT ME...
In a regular week, you’ll probably find me buzzing on a little too much swamp juice (matcha lovers, I see you!), demanding just a bit more of my husband’s generous affection, and diving into new recipes with a firm belief that everything tastes better from scratch (it does!). I also spend an unreasonable amount of time standing in the middle of rooms in our home, hands on hips, dreaming up the next rental-friendly DIY project.
The things that bring me sheer, simple joy? Being in good company under blue skies, soaking in the charm of novelty boutique stores, and scoring secondhand treasures!
Right now, I’m finding my rhythm as a full-time creative, and leaning into what being a good villager looks like amidst all of this.

My work today is still the same as it was for little Jess: Grounded in childlike curiosity, connection to self and with others, and a genuine love for delighting in the every day. Through interactive, playful illustrations and purpose-filled design, I aspire to shape intentional atmospheres and design experiences that spark connection, celebrate life, & invite meaningful moments to unfold.
